Scale-Up & Batch Execution

Take the validated recipe to the plant — demo, pilot, and production batches, executed and signed off.

01

Why Batch Execution Matters for Innovation

A validated lab route is not a product. Between the bench result and a saleable batch lies the hardest part of the journey — executing the recipe at kilo, pilot, and plant scale, with planned versus actual charges, real yields, in-process checks, and a signed batch record for every run. This is exactly where most R&D platforms stop and where paper batch sheets and disconnected MES silos take over, breaking the data lineage that made the lab work traceable in the first place.

When batch execution lives outside the innovation platform, the feedback loop that scale-up depends on is severed. The yield loss discovered on the first pilot batch never makes it back to inform the next DOE. The deviation raised on the plant floor never links to the route it came from. Cost per kilogram — the number that decides whether a product is viable — is reconstructed by hand, weeks later, from fragments.

Executing batches on the same platform that holds the recipe, the specs, and the approvals means every run is a first-class, reviewable record: what was charged, what came out, what went wrong, and who signed it off — all connected to the project that will live or die by those numbers.

02

How Athena Optimizes Batch Execution

Athena's Batch module clones a validated recipe or Master Formula Record into an executable batch record — planned charge quantities, in-process checks, and yield fields ready to fill against actuals. Because a batch is built from the same Master Template engine as every other structured record, its layout is exactly the batch sheet your plant already uses, versioned so historical batches always read in their original form.

Every batch routes through the same approval/workflow engine that gates projects and samples, so a batch record is reviewed and signed off cross-functionally — production, QA, QC — with a complete, timestamped audit trail. Demo, pilot, and plant batches are distinguished by type, and each carries its scale so the lab→plant progression is visible at a glance.

Because batches belong to projects, they feed the tech-transfer dossier, the techno-economic cost model, and executive dashboards automatically. A batch's yield is not a number in a spreadsheet — it is live project data that every downstream view can read.

What You Get

Executable batch records cloned from a validated recipe / Master Formula Record
Planned vs. actual charge quantities, in-process checks, and yield capture
Demo / pilot / plant batch types with scale tracking
Cross-functional review & sign-off via the shared approval engine
Versioned batch layouts — historical batches preserve their original sheet
Full audit trail on every batch and each approval
Batches linked to their project — feeding tech-transfer, costing, and dashboards

How It Connects

Batches are cloned from recipes built in the Template Designer and approved through the Workflow Engine. They feed the Tech-Transfer Package (demonstrated batches), the Techno-Economic Engine (real yields), and Executive Dashboards.
